From the obscenely drunk scenes at the beginning, to the sweaty close-quarters existance on the submarine, you really do believe this film. Intense, realistic, and genuine performances grip you and keep you riveted as you follow the crew of a tyipical German WW2 U-boat crew. Favorite quote from the captain: “Now it gets psychological folks”…. Great stuff, and shouldn’t be missed.

It took me a while before I could convince myself that this would be a movie worth watching, and I’m so glad I did. Never before has a movie made me feel like laughing and crying at the same time – but this movie effectively pulled off being serious and belly-laughing funny. Not easy, and despite having the potential to be unbelievable, I’m left with a greater appreciation of the human spirit of kindness and caring. What a great movie…. see it! Promise me! :)
