Perfect 5.0
From the warped mind of Tim Burton comes this remake of an already twisted tale of a homicdal barber and his meat-pie cooking helper. I have not seen any of the original (if there are any) Todd movies nor have I seen any of the plays so I was thinking that this movie was a comedy with some bloodshed but boy was I wrong. YEs, it does have a lot of laughs involving sick humor but it is a very touching and very tragic story as well. When I learned why Sweeney Todd has become this Demon Barber I encouraged the violence but at some points in the movie I questioned some of his actions. Todd is a torn man who is sent to prison for an act of foolishness that he never committed and lost his family to the judge who sentenced him to 15 years in jail. Needless to say, when Todd is released, he begins his act of revenge by giving everyone on Fleet Street a “close shave.”

Perfect 5.0
The acting and musical numbers are very VERY good. Some of the songs have some comical lines in them but they are all delivered very powerfully and emotionally. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are perfect together on film and both delivered the best performance I have ever seen in any musical. Alan Rickman also gave a very good performance and was easily hated as the sinister judge. Even Sacha Baron Cohen was able to fit in some of his outrageous comic abilities and not hurt the overall film.

The sets, the lighting, the songs everything in this movie was perfect. This is by far the best Tim Burton movie since The Nightmare Before Christmas. I loved all the songs and how the characters sing their own verses at the same time. I have always liked musicals but this movie blew me away.

Horrid 4.2
Very bloody which I thought was unusual and very refreshing in a musical. I mean I’ve seen Cannibal the Musical!, Evil Dead the Musical, Little Shop of Horrors and even the Rocky Horror Picture Show but none of them even come close to measuring up to the emotion, comedy, and overall greatness that Sweeney Todd has achieved.

Surreal 2.1
There’s been a lot of confusion as to the real existence of Benajmin Barker aka Sweeney Todd throughout the years. However, many researchers have reported that the demon barber of Fleet Street is merely just a story and not a real person. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that the events that take place in this film can actually happen in this world. Ever hear of Jeffery Dahmer, Ed Gein, Albert Fish?

Not to be a smart ass to anyone but this is not the first movie that Johnny Depp has sung in. Let’s not forget the rockabilly classic “Cry Baby.” |
