Really Great 4.5
Finally a Batman movie that rivals if not, exceeds the original film in every aspect. The hype was big, the two questions on everyone’s mind was, “Who’s playing Batman?” “Who’s going to be the villain?” When those questions were answered, I knew this movie was going to be good.
Christian Bale is hands down, the best actor I’ve seen out of all the new up and coming actors and actresses. He creates a presence on camera that makes you comfortable but then he says or does something that makes you feel uneasy. That’s awesome acting. The reason I knew he would be an excellent Batman/Bruce Wayne was because of a film he did called American Psycho. Check it out and you’ll understand.
So here we are a new Batman film but it isn’t a sequel? Well what the hell?! The first Batman movie reveals Batman to Gotham so how far back are we going here in this prequel? We’re going back to Bruce’s first steps pretty much. We watch his close relationship with his father and mother. Then we watch them tragically being gunned down by a thief. After that, we watch Bruce dealing with the loss and almost throwing his life away because of it. Once Bruce gathers his senses, he embarks on a very long journey of training and wisdom. Finally when Bruce Wayne retutrns to Gotham, Batman Begins. -
Really Great 4.5
This movie was cast with superb actors. Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Rutger Hauer, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, all are great actors and all were terrific in the movie.
Christian Bale (I love this guy) is the BEST Batman/Bruce Wayne to date! He plays both characters exceptionally well and doesn’t mix them up and confuse the audience. Gary Oldman played a young “Sgt” Gordon (he isn’t Comissioner just yet) who is the only straight cop on the force in Gotham. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine both provide laughs with their characters. Freeman’s Mr. Fox and Caine’s Alfred were like our happy escapes from the drama and danger surrounding the story. Rutger Hauer and Lia Neeson both play schmucks very well but Hauer has one up on Neeson. Granted, Neeson’s Henri Ducard didn’t view himself as a villain were Hauer knew he was an a$$hole and continued along his path of a$$hole-ness. Good acting all around. Yes, even Katie Holmes did an ok job but she was very forgettable in the movie. -

Very Good 3.5
Batman Begins was equipped with an arsenal that made it one of the best superhero movies ever. From the cast to the story to special effects to music. This movie deserves a lot mroe credit than it was given especially when the previous two Batman movies were down right s***. Even though I love this movie, there is one thing that managed to piss me off, the direction the film moves.

Direction OK 2.5
I understand that this movie is going to explain Bruce’s relationship with his parents, the loss of his family, his training to become Batman, then being Batman and taking on evil-doers. The way the first half of the movie flows is incredibly slow and boring at times. I hated watching him train. The reason I don’t like most movies with training sequences is because you watch them do the same exact f***ing moves in the big fight at the end. Who wants to see the same friggin thing twice? Not me! Then once we’re out of the first half, we’re bombarded with flashbacks that show us Bruce’s relationship with his family and it takes up so much time that could’ve been spent watching Batman kick a$$ which is what I paid to see. If I wanted to watch a series of flashbacks, I’d watch IT. Other than that the movie is great.

Play Really Great 4.5
The dialogue between the characters is very real and for the most part sounds like a real-life conversation and not a script from a movie. I love the lines when Batman loses his patience and starts yelling. That s*** was almost frightenening because I’ve never seen Batman yell in a movie before.
-
Music Really Great 4.5
A score is provided by James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer. I can’t even remember what the score sounds like but I know it was good and it fitted and as you can tell, it wasn’t played so much that you forget the lines of the movie but you remember the music. Good job on that guys!

Visuals Good 3.0
The visuals were very cool in Batman Begins. The Scarecrow’s powder trips were nuts as all hell. The Batmobile was a bit much but it worked and worked well. The Batcave was amazing as was Gotham itself. It looked like a real city unlike Gotham from the original movie which looked like it was right out of a comic book. Now, I’m not knocking tim Burton or the first two movies but Batman Begins is the first movie to step away from the comic book look and appear more like a movie.

Risqué 1.8
The violence is mild overall. There’s great fight scenes and very scary imagery but all in all a toddler can watch this movie without a problem. Sex is not a factor at all in this film. Yes there is a love interest but it’s more like “puppy love” and not “doggy style” which is good because that is not what Batman is about anyways.
The edge for Batman Begins was amazing because the movie had it all. The cast, the visuals, the story and all of that helped create the biggest edge for the movie, the hype and when the movie was released there were very few if any, disappointments. -

Surreal 3.0
This movie is the most realistic Batman so far. Like for instance, the “bat gadgets” were always so cool but there was never any explanation on how they were made and why Batman was never out of ammo. This movie shows how they designed them, discovered them, and put them together along with the Bat suits, the symbol, everything. This movie shows the complete creation of Batman and makes it feel realistic not fantasy.
