  1. Quality Help-l
  2. Perfect 5.0

Move over Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas or even Mad Monster Party….Coraline is the new kid on the block.

A twisted tale of the bizarre, Coraline can creep out adults just as easy as the children the film seems to be aimed at. With great animation, good characters, and some of the most eerie visuals I have ever seen in a children’s film, Coraline has easily become one of my favorite animated films. So aside from the overall look of the film, how’s the plot that the visuals are entangled with? Very interesting, original, and relatable to many children.

“A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family. "

There have been other films of this nature like James and the Giant Peach and Matilda but neither were able to really frighten to the extenet that Coraline did. If you’re a fantasy fiend, a horror hound, or just an average movie fan, definitely check out Coraline, you will not be disappointed. While it is a movie intended for children, be cautious with the kiddies because there are some scenes that will scare the Huggies off their backsides. I know because it happened to my little rascals.

The film is available in 3-D, however, I only saw it in 2-D but I would absolutely love to see it in the 3-D version someday.

  3. Very Good 3.5

The voice acting is pretty impressive. While voice acting isn’t always the easiest to judge as far as performance, Dakota Fanning and Teri Hatcher were excellent. The acting and animation matched very well allowing for the viewer to hear and see exactly what the characters were feeling.

  4. Male Stars Very Good 3.5
  5. Female Stars Very Good 3.5
  6. Female Costars Very Good 3.5
  7. Male Costars Very Good 3.5
  8. Perfect 5.0

Coraline is one visually frightening film even with its “kid friendly” animation appearance. The animation looks great along with the lighting scheme. The music meshes well with what we’re seeing. The dialogue is simple, to the point, and understandable for both kids and adults.

  9. Direction Perfect 5.0
  10. Play Perfect 5.0
  11. Music Perfect 5.0
  12. Visuals Perfect 5.0
  13. Content Help-l
  14. Risqué 2.1

The violence isn’t anything gory but the “other” people that reside in the alternate world all have buttons sewed into their eyes which is a little disturbing and in the finale, the “other” mother turns into a very scary looking being that may send some little ones crying. There is no form of sex or any kind of innuendos so no worries there fellow parents. Being the “other” world keeps and kills some children, a few people may get upset about it but it’s nothing to really be offended by.

  15. Sex Innocent 1.0
  16. Violence Brutal 3.0
  17. Rudeness Salty 2.2
  18. Supernatural 4.0

Every kid dreams of an escape from the real world. Be it an alternate reality of their own lives or some place far from where they reside like a different world or such. However, the dream world or fantasy land wouldn’t be able to affect you and those around you in real life. Or at least I would hope not.

  19. Circumstantial Supernatural 4.0
  20. Biological Supernatural 4.0
  21. Physical Supernatural 4.0

it’s a fun and creepy little flick. If you have the chance to see it in 3-D, take it.

PS – Have you been able to get Rob Zombie’s Halloween II on the site? I sent an email about two weeks ago requesting it on the site because I have a video review of it done and would like to post it on here.
