This instantly became my favorite sci-fi thiller of all time. Bravo! Taken from the perspective of one of the kids filming things as NYC is being torn down and terrorized by an unkonwn beast, this film really puts you there and makes it feel real…. you are not at a surreal distance like so many films of this genre.
Amazingly, the way this film starts out with the kid filming events at a party — you get in to the film even without the main plot-line taking hold. They probably just could have continued with the 20-something drama and subtle-yet-still juvenile humor and I would have enjoyed it…. but Wham! you are thrust in to a nightmere which grips you and keeps you thoroughly entertained (and stressed out!)
I thought I wouldn’t go for the herky-jerky handy-cam style of filming — but it is exactly what makes this film seem so real, and the action so surprising and gripping. I did not feel annoyed even once. They even used it humorously a few times when the kid was supposed to be filming a girl talking even though the camera was obviously drifting to her boobs…. lol And the fit was so great, I overlooked the fact that most people wouldn’t bother to continue filming with everything going on.
See this film!

True dat Randy. We still got Iron Man, Indiana Jones, Dark Knight, Punisher 2, and many other films with “movie of the year” potential that will be released this year. Even though 2008 has been dubbed the year of the remakes, I still have high hopes for the sequels and new comers. |
