1st Hot Fuzz
2007 Good 108 Points

Hot Fuzz is a follow up from the guys who did Shaun of the Dead and one of the few movies of its kind to surpass the originals like-ability. The chemistry between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost is of course stellar (being that they are partners) and the twist about 2/3 through the movie is a good one. Many of the scenes in the movie are overly "cartoonish" but on purpose. The feel of the film is not only action but also parody as the duo go through most subtle "buddy cop" cliches and even point out they are doing so on many occasions. 1st Forrest Gump
1994 Perfect 99 Points

America. My theory is that Forrest Gump serves as personification of the early baby boomers, i.e. of the America of that era. Naive, idealistic, rambunctious, Forrest's life functions as allegory for the cultural journey of the generation that came of age during the 60s.

1st The Silence Of T...
1991 Perfect 44 Points

Silence of the Lambs set the standard for the psychological crime thriller. As Hanibal, Anthony Hopkins does 'evil' like nobody else, and if that wasn't enough, Jodie Foster and her law enforcement brood need to find and deal with Hanibal's sick protege. This movie deserved all of the Oscars that it received.

1st Identity
2003 Perfect 3 Points

This is the way that thrillers are supposed to be made. With an all star cast, Identity is one of the few thrillers that will have you guessing until the last 2 minutes of the movie. 10 strangers find themselves trapped in a motel in the middle of a storm and when they start getting murdered 1 by 1, the race is on to find the killer. With great performances and a "killer" story (pun intended), this movie is the way it is supposed to be done.
