I have some serious concerns about the words chosen to correspond to the numeric values on some of the scores. The terms corresponding to Rudeness, Sex and Violence seem arbitrary and for many films off the mark. The terms for the Reality scores seem totally bizarre (is glib a point between natural and surreal)? Most important, for the scores above edge, a good film wants a high score, but that clearly isn’t true for the scores in Edge and Reality; a film can have no edge and be very realistic (thus scoring 1 on both) and be a perfect film. Seems like these need a different scale altogether—non-numeric and clearly not contributing to the overall score of the film. |

Thanks for the feedback Jesse. First to your concerns about Edge and Reality: these two scoring catetories concern the content of the movie, while Summary, Acting and Film concern the quality of the movie. Thus high or low Edge and Reality scores provide insight to a movie’s content, independent of its quality. As for the scoring words, your suggestions for alternates are welcome. |

Hi. It is entirely up to you of course, I was just suggesting that the page should make clear to the reviewer how these subscores contribute. As for wording, I’d suggest moving away from terms that are harder to order (is Nasty Ruder than Profane or less Rude?) and instead use:
For sex I’d use the standard ratings: G, PG, PG13, R, X For Violence I’d go back to what I did with rude
Reality you are creating a spectrum from realistic to fake. The first sub-category should be Circumstances
I’d change Physical to Setting and then use the same scale as for Circumstances I’d change Biological to Characters and then use the same scale as for Circumstances But these are just my suggestions as to how I would do it; one person’s ideas; not perfect by any means. |
