  1. Quality
  2. Really Great 4.5

Scorcese’s Hitchcock esque thrill ride may not be among his best work, but it still holds strong and opens up a promising year for many other movies. “Shutter Island” is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane. I haven’t read the novel so I’m merely judging this as a film on its own.

The film tells the story of Teddy Daniels(Leonardo Dicaprio) and Chuck Aute(Mark Ruffalo), two federal marshalls. They go to investigate Shutter Island, a mental hospital for the most dangerous of patients. A woman named Rachael Solondo has gone missing and only Teddy and Chuck can solve the mystery only to unravel a bigger mystery altogether.

“Shutter Island” is a great edge of your seat thriller with great acting and a fantastic story. If it had been released it 2009 originally, it probably wouldn’t have sweeped the Oscars. But as far as films so far this year go, this is the best.

  3. Really Great 4.5

The acting is the film’s stongest point. The cast we’re dealing with here is a strong, solid, A+ cast. From main stars like Dicaprio, Ruffalo, and Ben Kingsley to secondary players like the always superb Jackie Earle Haley and Michelle Williams.

  4. Male Stars Really Great 4.5
  5. Female Stars Really Great 4.5
  6. Female Costars Really Great 4.5
  7. Male Costars Really Great 4.5
  8. Great 4.0
  9. Direction Great 4.0

The first half of the film was absolutely fantastic. However, the second half didn’t turn out as strong and truly picked up once the “Memento” like twist was finally revealed.

  10. Play Really Great 4.5
  11. Music Great 4.0

The music is very chilling however some of the cues weren’t so good. There were times where they didn’t the fit the scenes they were in.

  12. Visuals Really Great 4.5
  13. Content
  14. Sordid 2.7
  15. Sex Innocent 1.0
  16. Violence Savage 4.1
  17. Rudeness Profane 2.9
  18. Supernatural 3.1
  19. Circumstantial Supernatural 3.1
  20. Biological Supernatural 3.1
  21. Physical Supernatural 3.1

Regarding hurwizzle’s Review
Interesting. It was the reverse for me: liked the movie but not the trailer.

OMG Thank you for posting a review, Wick. I’ve been hearing so many mixed reactions and from what I saw on “At the Movies”, it wasn’t lookin too good but now that I’ve seen your review, this is surely gonna be a great one.
