So you may have noticed that I’ve slammed a bunch of movies in my recent reviews. I figure this is both a good and bad thing.

Good because pans are lots of fun to write, and because knowing what movies a reviewer hates and why he hates them is often more telling that knowing what he likes.

Bad because I’m generally pretty pikky about what I choose to watch, so I don’t often see bad movies. But the past couple of weeks have included nary a single new theatrical release worth seeing (“The Band’s Visit” being the exception), and I’ve been doing a bunch of air travel where the choice of movies has been both large and poor.

Thus, “Assassination of Jesse James,” “King of California,” and “The Brave One” have now entered my non-recommended list.

I’m hopeful next weekend brings something worth venturing out to see. Otherwise I’ll have to pan again.

So the Assasination of Jesse James was bad huh…I have been wondering about that movie..lol. I thought the brave one was ok, but not something I would watch again. :)

p.s. I really like this place :)

I know what you mean about bad movies. If let’s say I rent a movie and it is bad, I will still watch it, but just fast forward until it looks a little better. “Assassination of Jesse James”, though was one that I couldn’t even fast forward through. I feel asleep in the early evening because of this movie and was thrown off my routine for almost a week. I mean even the next day I tried to watch from where I thought I had been the night before and yet I just turned off the dvd in the five minutes that I had started watching it.

Kudos to Spaceghost for the most entertaining pan I’ve read in a long time, his review of Indiana Jones 4, aka, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. While I liked the movie more than he did, his review made perfect sense to me, and was funny as hell to boot. He basically did a slow burn, getting more irritated as he went along, especially in his Reality commentary, finishing up w/ “I’m getting angry about this movie again. So I’m going to stop. I’ll just say it sucks move on.”

I totally agree. It can sometimes suck to review a bad film, ‘cos sometimes you just want to write about how much you loved something. But particularly with Hostel, I’ve found a devilish enjoyment in totally slamming a film, and so I can see the flip side of the coin here!
