  1. Quality
  2. OK 2.5

Summer – a jaded head-turning girl who believes that true love isn’t possible, and Tom, a dude that believes he has found love at first sight are brought together in 500 days of Summer. A normal progression for a romantic film – Tom tries in all those young-man ineffective ways to get her attention, and miraculously, she sees the good in him. They awkwardly get in to a relationship which turns steamy. So, that was Ok — even enjoyable and funny. Unfortunately, the progression to the ending just doesn’t hang together for me. Without spoilers, the ending was plausible but just did not flow well and left me with an unsatisfying taste in my mouth. Not a total disaster, with a decent amount of both steam and LOL – just a little disappointing.

  3. Good 3.0

Joseph Gordon-Levitt – a decent job as a dry and mostly too serious lovestruck Tom. Zooey Deschanel – Summer – was pretty, but lacked a genuine feel. Here are the real stars in my book: Geoffrey Arend – the slushy side-kick friend McKenzie and Chloe Moretz – as the sarcastic adolescent sister Rachel – too old for her years, but that makes her character funnier.

  4. Male Stars Good 3.0
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars Good 3.0
  8. OK 2.5

Movie uses flash-forwards, which I’m not a big fan of, and as mentioned above, hated the progression to the ending. However, I did love some of the LOL moments – my favorite scene was a rendition of the day after Tom slept together as a corny musical.

  9. Direction OK 2.5
  10. Play OK 2.5
  11. Music OK 2.5
  12. Visuals OK 2.5
  13. Content
  14. Tame 1.4
  15. Sex Innocent 1.4
  16. Violence Gentle 1.4
  17. Rudeness Polite 1.4
  18. Glib 1.8
  19. Circumstantial Glib 1.8
  20. Biological Glib 1.8
  21. Physical Glib 1.8

Regarding BrianSez’s Review
Understandable and justifiable take Bri. This is one of those movies that triggers widely varying responses. You gave it 2.5 beams. I gave it 3.5 and Hurwizzle gave it 4.5.
