  1. Quality
  2. Very Good 3.5

A bit of 1970’s style irreverence tells the story of a rogue band of US soldiers who take advantage of the war in France to go for some cash. The best part of the movie are the cast of characters who (well maybe except for Clint Eastwood) really ham it up: Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Donald Sutherland, Harry Stanton, and others. 70’s era irreverence was so quaint by today’s standards – but one can easily appreciate the bad-boy angle of the film. I read that Clint wasn’t so happy about the outcome, and it sparked a new era for him where he began to demand greater directorial control of the films he was in. Now that I think back on the movie, he did look the most uptight of the bunch; everyone else looked to be having a good time.
