Pretty Awful 0.5
Stupid, strained and stale. Funny is funny, if only this big budget exercise in explosions and starpower brought the yucks. Never does. All you can expect are one or two smiles interspersed with more painful moments than a trip to the dentist. Woof.
While MetalJunky5000 disliked it less than me, his commentary is spot on that “many of the jokes fell embarrassingly flat.” As a table.

Barely OK 2.0
Will Ferrell’s metrosexual act has gotten old. Mark Wahlberg’s reedy voice doesn’t allow him to play a credible heavy when he has to deliver more than a smidgen of dialog.
Wasted in this mess are such worthies as Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton. Sad.

Pretty Awful 0.5
Classic specimen of Hollywood’s odd combination of adolescent male sexual bravado and Left Wing reactionary politics. Writer-director Adam McKay has been behind Will Ferrell’s best movies (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy) and now one of his worst. Pack it in Dude.

I don’t hate Will Ferrell either. For instance, I thought I gave him a pretty fair shake in Semi-Pro, which now looks like the movie that started his downward slide from “can’t miss” status. It’s interesting that you two guys gave The Other Guys such different ratings. I’ll have to catch it on a plane or in a hotel room to determine who I agree with more. |
