To call “Predators” the first true sequel to original gorehound sci-fi laced action classic is untrue. Predator 2 is a true sequel. Look it up. But to say that “Predators” is tonally the full-scale perfect sequel to that first film is interesting for its truth. Predators feels like the kind of action movie that came out in 1990…before shaky-cam, before gore for the sake of gore, and before wirework and cgi overtook practicality. Predators, give or take, is a perfect throwback to the ideal era of action cinema and for that i appreciate its merits and its faults. This film is (mostly) action from start to finish, filled with surprises (even if you watched every preview out there, some things are unxpected), scares, and fairly substantial acting from all involved. highly recommended if you are a fan. Trust me its really easy to overlook any and all complaints the moment you watch a spine ripper.

  3. Great 4.0

Thank you adrien brody! He put on a lot of weight to look like a seasoned mercenary veteran (thankfully not as hulkinh as the guys from the lst movie. Realism!) He is not one of my favorite actors, and he has the tendency to be typecast as a spindly piano player or a doctor or so many other nerdy/non-actiony types that i immediately respected his gravitas and change the moment he was onscreen. Bravo to him for the transformation and the dedication to his craft, I read somewhere that he was originally wanted another role (the one that went to topher grace i would assume) yet hen would not sett;e for less than the role of royce. congratulations. Alice braga is the prerequisite woman and she also nails it. she brings more emotion than most other members of the cast put together and also has a far tougher streak than most as well. A great female anti-hero. Topher Grace is perfect for what he is-comic relief and a question mark for the audience (unless you telegraphed the big twist on his character like anyone who read about predators prior to release did) and that is a big sigh of relief. Topher Grace is remarkably funny and i would be disappointed if some of his trademark comic stylings didn’t make the cut. the rest of the cast comes together accordingly and everyone works really well. I don’t have names next to me but i really enjoyed the subtlety of the role of the yakuza member. Perfect.

  5. Female Stars Great 4.0

  8. Great 4.0

everything about this movie just…works. the acting is top notch (brody, braga, grace, etc…as mentioned above, even the cameo by Fishburne). The direction by nimrod antal is perfect for what this type of movie is. Like stated in the summary, it is not at all a modern action movie but a throwback or a love letter to the early action movies of the 80s. Robert rodriguez script may have a couple of holes in it, but with the assistance of antal and others to fine tune it to the style of the eventual finished product, it works. When i looked up the production budget on this and found out it only cost 40 million is was taken aback. that is a sure sign of how well everyone did on this movie. a 40million dollarf production looks and sounds this good, makin you feel as if you are watching a film that cost way more. troublemaker studios, you have my highest commendation.

  9. Direction Great 4.0
  10. Play Great 4.0
  11. Music Great 4.0
  12. Visuals Great 4.0
  13. Content
  14. Sordid 3.1

There is no sex to speak of, literally. the most you get is a few scattered references to rape or body parts being “awesome”. the violence and rudeness, on the other hand, is on another scale. Spine ripping, blood, predator blood, decapitations, utilizing human corpses as traps, gunshots to the head…this movie is an action lover’s dream and a child’s nightmare. Definitely not recommended for the average young one unless theyve already seen as bad or worse (who am i to tell someone how to raise their children?) but if a fan of the red stuff…watch it immediately.

  15. Sex Titillating 1.7
  16. Violence Savage 4.1
  17. Rudeness Nasty 3.6
  18. Supernatural 3.6

the entire movie takes place on a alien planet hunting ground where invisible creatures stalk, hunt, nd eventually kill everything on it. the people are drugged and dropped onto the planet from around the globe (of Earth) and forced to band together to surviv instead of killing each other off, like would probably actually happen. To say it isn’t the most realistic film is an understatement, but to say that every bit of surrealism and supernatural elements is obverlooked because thats the type of movie it is? indeed and agreed. the physical factors of the movie atre a bit more realistic though, as the people react and respond, live and die…like people. it is a fairly fine line to watch between the real and the fake and this film treads the line. Expect nothing less from a Predator film. bring on the sequel!.

  19. Circumstantial Fantasy 4.4
  20. Biological Supernatural 3.6
  21. Physical Surreal 2.9

Regarding MetalJunky5000’s Review
Sounds like a blast. Of course, most movies Robert Rodriguez makes are, from El Mariachi on.

I know what you mean about Adrien Brody. You never know if he’s going to work in a role till you see him in it.
