  1. Quality
  2. Really Great 4.5

I’m not going to make TOO many fast and furious jokes revolving around car puns because as a review thats…oh my gosh I almost said “cruise control”? ick. the reason is because this franchise has went from taking the “easy route” to becoming something wholly original and may be the only superhero franchise not featuring actual superheroes! For those uninitiated, this franchise began in 2001 as a Paul Walker vehicle (allow me that pun it came naturally) and a point break ripoff, which sort of means that even then Walker was positioned as a Keanu Reeves type (who can blame them?). Despite Pitch Black being a superior showcase, Vin diesel finally broke out with his role as Dominic Toretto and has been a star ever since. the second film eschewed Diesel for tyrese because….umm….and the film is passable and playful dumb fun, introducing two characters who are still part of the franchise today! tokyo Drift had some of the most entertaining and outlandish racing fun (saying something!) and brought us the character of Han. 4 brought back the original characters, killed one off for a movie or 2, and brought the whole thing into the current “action spectacle/heist extravaganza” that it currently is. And boy is this film fun as long as you don’t ovethink the physics of it and just allow for the “OH DAMN THAT WAS COOL!” to happen. Keeping up that means we have Brian (Walker), Toretto (diesel), Tej (ludacris), Roman (tyrese), Mia (jordana brewster), letty (michelle rodriguez), luke hobbs (dwayne johnson), han (sung kang), gisele (wonder woman! er, gal gadot) and…geez did i forget anybody? Anyway they’re getting their criminal records expunged if they help DSS agent hobbs bring down owen shaw, who basically does what they do but instead of street smarts has military training and lots of money. toretto and crew agree for the records to be wiped but when its revealed that Shaw has Letty working for him (contrivances!!!!) it gets complicated and personal. Shaw remeains one step ahead and yet one car length behind by movie’s end (yes i know it was forced) as he realizes that this time he may not be outgunned, but possibly outmatched for wits and fortitude, not to mention drive (last one i promise!) and heart. Oh, and it’s a sill summer blockbuster that features more fun staged and wonderfully paced action than almost any other series in cinemas. the Fast and the furious 6 is a blast from start to finish and one of the most entertaining films of 2013.

  3. Good 3.0

Ok this heavily depends upon how you feel about these names: Vin diesel. Paul Walker. Chris “Ludacris Bridges”, Tyrese gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans, Dwayne johnson, et al. Let’s be honest, vin disel is never going to win any acting awards although he has a massive following and is certainly a star. Paul walker was never known for acting either; in fact, he was often ridiculed by his wodden deliveries and as mentioned above was mentioned in the same breath as Keanu Reeves many-a-time. Dwayne Johnson seems to come out fo every movie unscathed, as his character is not only one of the most fun, but Mr. johnson’s charisma and natural acting ability make it seem like hes acting on another level than a fast movie. Luke evans plays the big bad very well and even comes across as a threat to the team, along with his team which is essentially a clone team of the protagonist group. Is the acting terrific? no, not really, but is far and away above what you’d expect and much more interestingly performed with each new installment. Maybe it’s that the actors are so comfortable in the skin of the characters but it feels effortless and seamless now and that’s all you want out of a fantasy; to not be pulled out of it.

  4. Male Stars Good 3.0
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars Good 3.0
  8. Really Great 4.5

The production values go up with each new installment and it shows. The first film was made with a paltry 38 million dollars- 6 cost 160. But when you look at the slicker than slick direction, the sound and picture, the special effects (which are not cartoony in the slightest save for a couple of examples where a videogame vibe is reached), the cast and crew, the script 9which regardless of critics isn’t bad for this series!), and thew action. THE ACTION!! Not since the a-team in 2010 have i been so enamored of an aciton scene involving a tank, and yes that is in my opinion the best action beat in the film (surpassing the jumbo jet and impossibly long runway) but its not often you can honestly say that every dollar is on the screen as much as you can with this one. It’s endlessly rewatchable and the fact that you can watch this and say “Oh wow” over and over again is a testament to the fact that everyone was on their game for another round of this series. Justin Lin (fasts 3-6) has literally turned this series into a showstopper that…ugh, i’m gonna make another pun…“leaves every other action franchise seemingly in the dust.”

  9. Direction Really Great 4.5
  10. Play Really Great 4.5
  11. Music Really Great 4.5
  12. Visuals Really Great 4.5
  13. Content
  14. Risqué 2.4

The "sex quotient is kept to a minimum in this installment, as it would appear that everyone except Tej and roman have settled down and toretto chasing the one that died and was resurrected. Their are some suggestive scenes but nothing overt or displeasing for less matuyre audiences. this is an action movie afterall, and the scenes are an overload in some instances (hence why the runway seems so long; so many people to follow at once!) but with tanks destroying overpasses, cars flip[ping in the middle of london streets, a jumbo jet being dragged into ground, and all of the gravity defying stuntwork by EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE CAST at some point, its not violent but it can be quite the assault…in a pg-13 way.

  15. Sex Titillating 1.8
  16. Violence Brutal 3.1
  17. Rudeness Salty 2.4
  18. Surreal 2.6

The moment you watch toretto jump off of a car using the momentum of himself crashing into an overpass wall going 100mph and leveraging that jump to catch Letty 50 ft in the air whilst being thrown from the tank as it careens off of the aforementioned overpass by way of a car and tow cable anchoring it down thereby rendering it incapacitated, you may realize that realism went out the window a couple movies ago. ;-)

  19. Circumstantial Surreal 2.5
  20. Biological Surreal 3.0
  21. Physical Surreal 2.3
