  1. Quality
  2. Good 3.0

A moody but engaging movie that tells different stories that you eventually figure out are related. Quite well done and interesting, BP navigates the complex backgrounds of its characters while it slowly weaves the tales together. The film deals with troubled histories, inner demons, and paths to salvation. Throw in some border-town surrealism and sexual chemistry – and you’ve got a decent sleeper on your hands.

  3. Good 3.0

Charlese Theron leads the crew as the depressed and sex obsessed woman with a past to get over. Jennifer Lawrence (from Winter’s Bone) and JD Parto “Santiago” are my favorites as the in-love teenagers who are brought together by a highly unfortunate set of circumstances. Kim Bassinger and Joaquim de Almeidda are Gina and Nick – a couple involved in an affair do an Ok job. Kim’s performance was not as pronounced as I expected.

  4. Male Stars Good 3.0
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars Good 3.0
  8. Good 3.0

The movie is well put together with a story that holds back long enough to be intriguing and it gradually lets you connect the dots. I haven’t felt a “wow, so that’s what’s going on” moment at a movie in quite a long time – so it was really fun to experience that.

  19. Circumstantial Glib 2.0
