Randy's Review

  1. Quality
  2. Perfect 5.0

I noticed Wick’s perfect review of this movie, and its listing under his “favorites” ViewList, and I felt compelled to review this movie myself, and add my voice and trust points to it. This is also one of my favorite movies of all-time, and it is well deserving.

Apollo 13 is the tale of a true American story. If you don’t feel damn proud to be an American by the end of this movie, then I’m confident that you never will. This movie reminds us of the great nation that we live in, and I feel that its message can be applied nicely to our nation’s current situation. Even when things appear rough… when everything seems at its worst… there is still hope. Because no matter how many foreign conflicts our country becomes engaged in, and no matter how bad the economy gets, we live in The United States of America… and somehow, someway… we will find a way to fit that square peg into the round hole and solve the problems.

The film tells the story of NASA’s Apollo 13 mission, where three astronauts aboard the Apollo 13 spacecraft bound for the moon experience technical problems, and risk not only an experience of a lifetime, but also their lives. An extremely compelling, touching tale of three men overcoming the granddaddy of adversity to get the job done when it mattered most. Apollo 13 also documents the loyalty and dedication of the men on the ground, doing everything within their power to bring about a positive outcome from a dreary situation.

Accurate historical account… emotion-evoking… and Tom Hanks… all the makings of an excellent film.

  3. Perfect 5.0

Tom Hanks – one of my favorite actors ever… whether it be Forrest Gump… Cast Away, A League of Their Own, Apollo 13, Sleepless in Seattle, or Toy Story. He seems to fill every role he plays appropriately, properly conveying his characters thoughts and purpose to audiences through his diction and body language. Here, he plays the American hero Jim Lovell, one of the three astronauts aboard the failing spacecraft.

Bill Paxton (Fred Haise) and Kevin Bacon (Jack Swigert) play his sidemen…

Gary Sinise plays Ken, the man on the ground in Houston who was supposed to go up in the aircraft, but instead, ends up playing a very important role none-the-less. He is a favorite of mine from his previous collaboration with Hanks in “Forrest Gump” and his character on CSI.

Regarding Randy’s Review
Excellent appreciation of an all-time great movie Randy. If I was a science teacher, I’d have kids do reports on it.
