  1. Quality
  2. Really Great 4.5

In a rare complete difference with Wick, I felt that with AGS, Oliver Stone delivered one of the best football movies ever. The football itself is fun, but the cast takes AGS over the top. Stone foretells the story of the modern football game where the QB flies high and the running game takes a back seat. AGS covers all the bases of the game , but the fun part is the dynamics of the player’s lives, the shady team doctor, the self absorbed QB , the coach vs owner drama, and of course the game stress itself. Great coverage of all the angles, and like any good sports movie, the tension builds and takes you to a great climactic ending.

  3. Great 4.0

AGS is all about the cast. Dennis Quaid is the reasonable veteran QB and Jamie Foxx is the “its all about me” up and comer. Cameron Diaz is great as the “ice in her veins” owner, and of course Al Pacino comes through as the coach going through a mid-life crisis. My picks? James Woods as the shady team doctor and John McGinley as the sports beat writer. But, did you see who had shorter slots or stand ins? Charlton Heston, Ann-Margeret, and players like Terell Owens, DIck Butkus, Warren Moon, and Johnny Unitas among others.

Really? While I obviously feel differently about this movie, you make a very good point about how it foretells “the modern football game where the QB flies high and the running game takes a back seat.”
