Great review AMC. I’ve tried to see The Wrestler twice now, and both times it was sold out. So I saw Revolutionary Road the first time, which was good enough, but not something I would have otherwise seen. Then I saw Waltz with Bashir the second time. At least that was a movie I needed to see.

Anyway, I still gotta see The Wrestler, now more than ever after reading your review.

Regarding willjros’s Review
I can’t emphasise how good I thought this film to be. Whilst it dragged quite substantially at parts, I’ve not felt such a build-up of tension and anticipation in a movie, and Brando doesn’t throw this out the window when he finally appears as Kurtz. It must be heartening, given the problems encountered in making this movie, that it is now so acclaimed.

It’s a shame, but I think that it sent a big message to the Academy as well as Hollywood as a whole; big-budget, fantastical movies can be serious, engaging and just as award-worthy. I expect this to impact heavily with the release of films such as Watchmen – Lord of the Rings cleared the way for fantasy and blockbuster movies to be recognised, and perhaps one day the snooty idiots might begin to realise public opinion doesn’t often run parallel to their perceptions of what is “successful” or not.

What a gyp that Dark Knight wasn’t nominated for Best Picture. It just goes to show how divorced from the audience the Oscars are, which is not to say that huge box office alone makes a movie Best Picture material. By the same token, neither does puny box office and prestige topics.

Facebook integration is getting very close. MySpace too.

Thanks for noticing the Movie forums now being located on the Movie Profile and Review pages. Should stimulate discussions, maybe even a flame war or two! ;-)

The other feature that just made a quiet debut is an RSS feed of WikPik reviews. The subscription link is up in the middle right of the header.

How is the Facebook integration going? I know that I would use that in a shot – I’ve posted some of the early reviews I’ve done for my student paper on there, and have gotten positive reception, so if you have Facebook (and there doesn’t seem to be many left who don’t) I think that this will be a great addition.

I really like the forum attachment to the review page – discussion on the films will be interesting to read.

It’s a fantastic movie – and yes, the best Holocaust one too. Polanski’s ‘The Pianist’ is probably the only other film close to it I would say.

I guess that surreal would have been a better bet – it’s just that whilst everything that occurs can be seen to be a bit crazy, it’s not beyond the realms of reality for someone to have done what they do! Sounds stupid but I guess that’s why I put that.

You definitely should see it, the bunk-bed scene is great but you will be surprised how raunchy and offensive it is too! Great movie.

Way to go Will! Take a stand. No sacred cows here. More precisely, no unslaughtered sacred cows.

Its been at least a couple decades since I saw Taxi Driver, but your review rings true to my recollection. Nice job nailing it.
