1st Watchmen
2009 Good 125 Points

Watchmen is widely regarded as the "unfilmable comic." In fact, the man who wrote the comic has made a very big point of saying so on numerous occasions. Alan Moore's general belly-aching about his work being adapted aside – I was in agreement. Watchmen is just too big, too deep, too perfect as a comic to successfully be adapted to a different medium. I am happy to eat crow and say that I was wrong. Very wrong.

I like watching adaptations of all kinds. I think its always interesting to see a story told in a different way. Hell, when you get down to it, that's all we do. We tell t…

1st Shoot 'Em Up
2007 Very Good 114 Points

This movie was freakin great. It was completely over the top in every way. The story, the action, the characters – it was all so much damn fun. Clive Owen is one of my favorites and he absolutely delivers in this one as Mr. Smith. Monica Bellucci can't help but be gorgeous in everything she does and Paul Giamatti is one of the best character actors out there. From the first scene of the movie (an infant delivery in the middle of a gunfight) you know this movie is gonna be anything but grounded. Its a celebration of every action/tough guy/conspiracy movie ever made and what better way …

1st Star Trek
2009 Great 131 Points

Sweet virginia hams this movie was the bees knees! I've never been a real fan of Star Trek because as good as it ever was – it was never bad ass. Looking at the age old battle of Trek vs. Star Wars it was no contest in my head – Chewie, Han, Vader and Yoda? Badass. Spock, Kirk and Picard? Interesting, but not badass. In Star Trek the cool factor was always insinuated more than shown and it really kept me at a distance.

This new version of Star Trek though, does what I did not think it could. It stays true to the original in most ways, but still manages to make the whole flick ba…

1st Just Friends
2005 Really Great 7 Points

This movie was enjoyable mainly because it was so easy for me to relate to. Being the fat kid during junior high and high school makes this the kind of story I always hoped to live myself. Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) is the fat kid who does what we all wanted to do – get skinny, get hot and make it big. He then actually has a chance with the girl who got away back in high school. This movie is hilarious throughout and is enjoyable to a wide audience. If you were a fat kid with an unrealistic crush in high school, however, or have ever been in the friend zone with a girl, the enjoymen…

1st The Dark Knight
2008 Perfect 173 Points

I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I love this movie for so many reasons that I don't think I could even list them all. As anyone who has read my reviews knows, I'm a huge comic geek. Putting that aside for a moment, this movie was just an incredible put together piece of cinema. The acting was superb, the direction was brilliant and the story was completely captivating. In my head this is a perfect step from Batman Begins. While begins looked more at "what creates a hero", Dark Knight looks at "what creates a villain". Not only does Batman (and everyone he knows) have to deal with the answer to tha…

1st Iron Man
2008 Perfect 136 Points

This movie was a spot on perfect translation of Iron Man to the big screen. Everything from the leading man, to the tech, to the great sense of humor throughout, this movie delivers in a big way. Something that sets marvel apart in the comic world is that its stories and characters are more grounded than those of the Distinguished Competition. Iron Man is the perfect case for that. Sure, its fantastic, but its ground in reality and its not hard to let yourself take the jump and enjoy the ride. One of the best damn comic movies ever, you will love this movie as will your girlfriend, you…
